Can you share the details on what aqua does?
Aqua was founded in 2015 with the singular mission to protect cloud native assets.
Seven years ago, companies were moving to the cloud for not just shared computing and storage but to modernize their application infrastructure. Just as the technology stack was about to change, so would the security stack. There was an opportunity to do security differently, more granularly and add it into the development cycle.
Traditional on-prem security vendors didn’t have the technology in place to protect cloud native environments. The public cloud providers weren’t prepared to provide their own security.
Our co-founders saw the transition to cloud native technologies was in its infancy, and it was opening the door to major security problems. There was an emerging need for an entirely new approach to security—one purpose-built to enable organizations to move to cloud native safely. Aqua developed the first-ever technology to protect cloud native environments. Since then, we’ve become leaders in cloud native security, researching and developing new solutions that prevent cloud native attacks.
What’s your company’s current working environment for employees?
Aquarians work in a hybrid setting – a couple days in the office and the remainder work-from-home. We have built a fun and engaging office culture that facilitates team building and bonding with free lunch, snacks and lots of events and happy hours. We recently had a Halloween costume party, set up a station to write holiday cards for Veterans, hosted a Thanksgiving lunch, and coordinated opportunities for employees to volunteer and give back this holiday season.
Our culture has always been highly collaborative and because our team spans the globe, it’s very common to jump on a video call or Teams chat to work on a project together.
What are your company’s core values or how would you best describe the culture at aqua?
At Aqua, we are driven by our values: We Care, We Lead and We Act. These are more than just words. Our values are exemplified through our philanthropy, volunteering, and commitment to our communities, as well as our market education, knowledge sharing and innovation.
In November, we organized Aquathon, our annual global step challenge to raise money for a cause and encourage employee wellness. We just finished Aquathon 2022 and we raised money for Breast Cancer Awareness with 190 Aqua employees that completed over 13 million steps!

Can you share the details on any diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives?
Aqua is committed to increasing diversity in both its talent and the broader industry. Aqua consistently supports nonprofit organizations focused on providing young girls with practical tools to develop leadership skills and improve their self-confidence. Each year we increase our work with new global organizations and currently work with organizations such as Women2Women, She Codes and Queen B. Additionally, Aqua employees are encouraged to be a champion for women – our employees include an ambassador for GirlCode, a 20,000-strong worldwide community that aims to close the gender technology gap, and a mentor for Wentors, a global community of women in technology.
In 2022, we launched a virtual magazine celebrating International Women’s Day, highlighting many female employees from various business units. Additionally, we host an annual panel open to both employees and external guests who can learn from inspirational women in tech. Aqua also volunteered to lead a session for Women in Cyber Security in May 2022 and held a book club during Black History Month.
What types of activities are employees involved in?
There is no shortage of fun events happening at Aqua! Some recent highlights include a charity bowling event, an Aqua carnival, a summer outing that featured rowing on the Charles River in Boston, wine tastings and glass blowing.
Our Burlington team also finds ways to stay active together; from cycling classes to running groups, fitness is another way the team likes to connect and have fun.
Lastly, there are several philanthropic opportunities that Aqua leads that employees can choose to participate in. In 2022, we’ve volunteered at animal shelters, Cradles to Crayons, cleaned up parks, assembled and donated backpacks for children, and raised money for breast cancer awareness.
Are there any fun facts about the company?
Our founders believe in the power of “One Aqua Team,” so uniting a remote workforce of 550+ employees spread over 15 countries is top priority. Each year, all Aquarians are invited to participate in an amazing experience to come together as a company in company-wide event referred to as “Aqua Splash.” It is a unique opportunity where employees meet in a spectacular location to learn, align and plan for the year ahead.
