Marjorie's career path
To tell you a little bit about my career path, I started through the operations side of the world was started as a consultant in the Lean Six Sigma space. And so processed consulting, fantastic experience around data and learning to work with people learning to manage projects. And then I moved from there into the people space slowly over time. I've done a lot of training, a lot of focus on development. And then as I moved into the startup world, which was about 11 years ago, for me, I had the opportunity to work for a couple of CHR OHS. And so over time really built up my, my additional people management skills for the people function. And it was really it was fantastic path for me.
What does a VP of People & Culture do?
Yeah, fantastic. So it's a marvelous role. Because the scope is broad, we manage the entire employee lifecycle from attracting and recruiting talent, to onboarding, engaging our employees, developing them, helping to manage their performance, and then rewarding and recognizing all of our employees for what they do. And so we're really all about getting the right people in the right roles doing the right thing at the right time.
Other career paths you can pursue
I personally feel like I have a couple of options that are fantastic, I could move up and become a CHR I would accompany which would be a fantastic experience. I could always go back into the operation side or the process side. I also loved consulting. So I feel like I've built up enough skills over the years that I could go in a lot of different directions, but I'd love what I'm doing right now.
Advice for becoming a VP of People & Culture
The best advice I could give is, first of all, to make sure it's a good fit for you. There's no better feeling than working in your sweet spot. And so if you have a real affinity for people, you like to work with people, you have that operational side as well to make sure that your people are helping to run the business in the right way. It's a great path for you. And so you can either come up through the people side you can come up through the upside
