About EnergySage and what they do
EnergySage is an online marketplace that educates consumers on solar and home energy products and matches them to local sellers.
Project examples and how the team works together
So to match the ambitions of our business, we're, we're undertaking a pretty big project right now to redesign our site, moving the site experience from a single category to multiple product categories. And that involves moving ahead with a clean, modern redesign of the visual identity as well as modernizing the front end architectures, expanding the information architecture on the site to accommodate multiple home energy products. So that's an example of something that we're doing right now. The teams work together, very cross functionally here, here at NRG. Sage, we've fully adopted agile teams or squad approach, those agile teams were autonomously operating within a larger product, vision and strategy. And we have an OKR framework in place with quarterly planning cycles to ensure that the top down meets the bottom up planning. And collectively our product team is the result of pm plus design plus engineering.
Details on their product and design team
Seven product managers, seven folks in our design organization today about 35 engineers, and we seek to grow that significantly in 2023 and beyond. And as I mentioned earlier, our teams are organized into cross functional parts. So we have product design and engineering together. And those teams are organized in ways that support our vertical lines of business. So residential rooftop solar is the core business, we have multiple pods supporting the core business. And then for our newer product verticals, community solar and heat pump, there's there are pods that support them as well.
What to expect during the interview process
We definitely customize the approach a little bit towards specific functions and roles. But generally, we have what we believe to be a pretty straightforward process, I would like to meet with candidates on the phone with one or two different people, and one or two different phone calls. To start the process, followed by generally speaking to about half day sessions, where the candidate will come in and see our office get to know our space meet our team get to know us and our culture, and vice versa. Typically, on that second half day session, there will be some case presentation or some kind of activity that we work on together to get to know how we work. And then from there, we make a decision.
Details on EnergySage's culture
EnergySage has been around for about 10 years, or more. So our culture really is baked, to what we do and how we do it. First and foremost, we are consumer first, in some marketplaces you have leads being created and then sold off to sellers. That's not how we do things here. We really want to empower consumers through transparency of choices, and equitable access to information. Home Energy is a complicated subject. And we want to do our best to educate consumers. We believe in the power of doing things together and better together. So very much a collaborative environment that seeks to bring out the best ideas from any direction and put those forward and execute against them. And we believe in having impact in the world. The work that we do is going to generate healthier bottom lines for consumers and shoppers all across the world. But also, we are going to sustain a positive environmental change. We're helping to decarbonize the world, as a result of the work that we do, and that means something the work matters.
Why now is the ideal time to join
Now's a great time to join EnergySage for a bunch of reasons. And together they sum total the fact that the conditions are right for a massive expansion of homeowners of the home energy as a category. solar costs are declining year over year from nine or 10 years ago when EnergySage first started. And also incentives are here at both the state and federal level to make the purchase decision a lot easier for folks, specifically with the Biden administration's passage of the inflation Reduction Act, a superpower that provides supercharged or a superpower to incentives for consumers to go solar and to go on The Home Energy home electrification journey. So the conditions are right to join and as a consumer product team, it's something that we believe we can do to actually help the environment. I myself am not an electrical engineer. I'm not a mechanical engineer I think I understand how photovoltaic cells work and solar panels but I probably wouldn't be the first person that could teach the subject. yet. I know that folks like me can have a demonstrable impact on climate change by helping consumers go solar, and consuming that electricity they create without having to rely as much on oil or gas or other kinds of carbon fuel sources
