Position Title: Senior IP and Product Counsel
Position Location: 35 Medford St., Somerville, MA 02143
Duties: Draft patent applications based on invention disclosures relating to mechanical, electrical, software and materials patents. Analyze patents and patent portfolios of competitors or targets, including patent litigation for infringement and validity. Regularly meeting with engineers and product managers to harvest new ideas for patenting. Conduct patent landscape analysis within the 3D printing industry. Interface with outside patent counsel and assist with prosecution of patent applications. Perform prior art searching. Manage international trademark portfolio. Manage international patent litigation. Stay abreast of open source software licenses and provide counsel to software engineers regarding incorporation of open source software. Negotiate software and other IP licensing agreements. Stay abreast of the generative AI field and provide counsel to the company regarding the integration of generative AI into various work streams. Assist in advising the Company on a range of environmental regulatory requirements and developments, such as TSCA; and identify opportunities and develop practical solutions to enhance the companys environmental compliance program and mitigate potential risks. Telecommuting is permitted 2 days a week.
Requirement: The position requires a Juris Doctorate in Law and two (2) years of experience performing domestic and foreign technology patent prosecution, including the European Union, China, and Japan. Must have two years of
experience in each of the following skills:
- Drafting and prosecuting patent applications related to software technology and mechanical systems with optics modules;
- Patent prosecution with technology related to optics systems and image analysis;
- Drafting and prosecuting patent applications related to the software and mechanical systems of 3D printers or additive manufacturing systems;
- Providing technical and legal counsel regarding patent applications related to the chemistry of 3D printing materials;
- Manage outside counsel with regard to international patent litigation; and
- Developing and maintaining systems for in-house patent portfolio management.
Must have one year of experience in each of the following skills:
- Reviewing open source licenses and applying them to software development;
- Reviewing generative AI solutions and their legal and intellectual property implications;
- Drafting and negotiating IP license agreements;
- Reviewing environmental regulations pertaining to materials development, including TSCA.
Requires Bar admission in at least one U.S. state and must pass the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Registration Examination.
