The Role
At Cedar, our Staff Workflows team oversees the development of Cedars staff-facing software and its underlying technical platform. This includes several internal tools used by Cedar staff, as well as the Operator Portal, the primary interface used by health-system employees (call center operators, front desk staff, and patient advocates) to assist patients with payments, check-in, etc. We are currently seeking a talented Staff Software Engineer to help us extend these tools with innovative user experiences, leveraging the latest technologies like LLMs, that will help healthcare workers and Cedar staff alike accomplish their tasks more efficiently and effectively.

In this position you will:
- Collaborate with product and client success teams to identify product gaps, shape technical strategy, and launch new features.
- Partner closely with Cedars data science team to design AI-powered features that enhance both staff- and patient-facing experiences, including chatbots, workflow automation, AI-generated bill explanations, and more.
- Lead rapid prototyping efforts to explore emergent technologies and iterate quickly on new features and workflows.
- Design and implement vendor integrations that connect Cedars platform with third-party solutions
- Own large projects by breaking down ambiguity, driving decision-making, setting clear milestones, and coordinating implementation efforts among multiple engineers
- Lead organizational improvements in processes, infrastructure, architecture, and developer satisfaction, identifying ways to elevate the engineering team.
- Mentor engineers through technical guidance, hands-on coding, and thoughtful PR reviews.
- Build, test, and maintain high-quality code, with an emphasis on readability, flexibility, testability, and long-term maintainability.
What we look for in an ideal candidate:
- 7+ years of professional full-stack software development experience
- 1+ year of experience applying Large Language Models (or significant side projects using LLMs or GenAI technology
- Strong computer science fundamentals - a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or similar experience
- A track record of leading technical projects across the stack with a focus on long-term scalability and maintainability
- Experience leading vendor integrations, especially co-development and R&D with vendor teams
- Experience collaborating with design and data science teams to create seamless and innovative product features
- Demonstrated ability to decompose large, ambiguous projects into consumable tasks for junior developers
- A natural inclination for ownership and bias for action
- Experience influencing cross-functional decision-making across product and design teams
- Experience mentoring engineers across levels
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts simply
- Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment, and find comfort in ambiguity
- Experience with API design and construction is a plus.

Compensation Range and Benefits:
- Salary/Hourly Rate Range: $216,750 - $255,000
