CMT is looking for a collaborative, customer-committed, and creative Principal Data Engineer who wants to join us in making roads safer by making drivers better!
Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, and create data architecture within the engineering team, focusing on new Geospatial data initiatives and a Geospatial Data Lake
- Develop innovative solutions to address complex technical problems, particularly in the realm of geospatial data, data engineering, and novel solutions that contribute to a new line of business for CMTs Public Sector
- Assume a leadership role in code and design reviews, specializing in data engineering and data processing code for our high scale multi-layer Geospatial data pipeline
- Drive full-stack design and development, emphasizing maintainability, usability, scalability, and performance. You will lead our Geospatial Data Lake data engineering efforts
- Collaborate with product managers and data scientists to understand the business direction and architect data platforms optimally for efficient data processing and new feature development
- Collaborate with the engineering teams developing CMTs new products in the Public Sector to start, as well as those in other markets
- Work closely with other technical leads and stakeholders to develop project plans, resource planning, and execution strategies
- Tackle significant and unique issues in data engineering, where the analysis of situations and data requires evaluations of intangible factors
- Provide essential support and troubleshoot production issues within data engineering systems, including potential on-call responsibilities
- Adhere and contribute to the company's development and operational standards and processes
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent years of experience and/or certification
- 9+ years of relevant working experience
- Proven expertise in development at scale, focusing on high throughput and low latency, particularly in the context of data-intensive applications
- Proficiency in one or more of Python, Ruby, Java, or C++, with a willingness to expand knowledge
- Experience with continuous deployment and test-driven development (TDD)
- Strong development skills in Python (JavaScript knowledge is optional)
- Experience with Big Data technologies including Spark, Redshift, Glue, Apache Parquet, and Sedona
- Experience with geospatial data and indexing (H3, Quadbin) preferred
- Comfortable working with AWS services, including EC2, S3, Lambda, SNS, SQS, and RDS (Postgres), as well as NoSQL databases
- Proficient in creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and AWS deployment descriptors with CloudFormation
- Knowledgeable in containerization technologies, specifically Docker
- Hands-on experience in developing web applications, including HTTP REST backends and Angular frontends, with a focus on data-driven features and reporting
